BC Walks presents program
to help make our communities more walkable
BC Walks will present a special community presentation
on making our communities more walkable.
The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday,
May 13 at the Clayton Avenue School, Vestal. The event is free and will
feature Charles Gandy, a national authority on walkable communities and
Peter Moe, Deputy Director of the National Center for Bicycling and
Walking.
They will discuss the benefits of walkable communities
and provide guidance on making communities more walkable. The
presentation is made possible by the Binghamton Metropolitan
Transportation Study.
BC Walks is a United Health Services’ health
initiative to promote increased physical activity and reduce the burden
of overweight, heart disease and diabetes. It is an intensive, eight
week, campaign aimed at communicating a simple but important health
message: that regular walking can provide energy, help people feel
better and improve overall health. BC Walks is also presented by the
Broome County Health Department and the New York State Department of
Health.
